Mori Girl 30 Day Challenge (day 6)

what sort of things, outside of fashion, do you consider to be part of a mori girl lifestyle?

Passing by A small shop with knick knacks and delaying whatever plans you had to take a look.

Noticing a small detail and it makes you smile! Whether it was a pattern in the lace on your dress,  little things in a painting the artist put so much work into even though they knew not many people would pay attention to it, the way a leafs veins stretch out, etc.

The excitement to get home after a grocery trip, because you bought a new tea to try.

Wrapping gifts, parcels and letters for your friends with extra care. (and with cute supplies)

Taking a deep breath outside, feeling the sun on your face, daydreaming.

Hoarding fabric scraps, just in case.

Carrying lots of things in your bag like sketchbooks and pencils, band aids, snacks and water.. if you get lost while wondering you won't have to worry!

Tending to take things slower than the people around you. Walking slower to take in your surroundings, eating slower to enjoy every bite, even getting art or writing done later because you've been busy daydreaming.

These are a few things I feel are part of being a mori girl! Sorry for my slow updates. I hope i can make these more regular!

Mori Girl 30 Day Challenge (days 4 & 5)

4. Name 5 things you love about mori girl

The lifestyle! I love The curious nature of a mori girl, her grace and the light air about her. I love that she will make a place for herself and isn't afraid to spend time alone, that she finds pleasure in little things, and the time she takes to enjoy herself. A mori girl is someone i see myself as, but also who i aspire to be; fully!

The aesthetic! Its so cozy and warm, simple or quirky. I find while looking at mori girl photography time stops for a moment, and I love it! The clothes and home of a mori girl are so comforting.

The clothes! (obviously!) I love the girly patterns and layers, the lace, the materials, the colours, the comfort!

Its connection to nature! Nature is quite healing and calming, and I love plants and animals so its perfect!

The community! (Up until recently, but ill get into that in the next list.) I love how the community is accepting, everyone is so creative and crafty, and over all pleasant!

5. Name 5 things you dislike about mori girl

The silhouette. For my body type, A-line styled dresses and shirts are horribly unflattering! It's made it hard for me to love myself in mori clothes, as much as i love the clothes themselves. It doesn't stop me from wearing them though!

The new community. I've noticed recently that mori kei has started to attract the type of girls with the "I'm better than other girls because i wear modest clothing, i don't wear heavy make-up and i like to actually read!" mentality. I have also noticed there have been more arguments (light, but they're still there) about what is REALLY mori kei, whats better than what, etc. Its a little frustrating because i found comfort in the mori community because of how accepting and kind everyone was. But its changing, as most communities do i guess.

That's all i dislike to be honest!  Anyways, I've been away for a few months. Sorry about that! (I dont think i have any regular readers? but still haha) I've also skipped the 3rd day, because i found that writing it was too boring and i just couldn't keep my attention on it long enough!

I also have a few mori youtube videos planned out that i can hopefully get together soon, So stick around for that! Thank you for reading enjoy the rest of your day/night!

Mori movies: Little Forest: Summer/Autumn - A review!

"Because of not being able to find a job in the city, a young woman named Ichiko returns to the rural mountain village of Komori to live a life of autarky. Using the regional ingredients she rummages, she takes advantage of the blessings and overcomes the harshness of nature to survive during changing seasons."

Little Forest makes me feel like I'm reading a Diary; Ichiko narrates her actions and thoughts, reflects on the past, and makes notes even on small and everyday things. It's incredibly slow paced and made me feel like i was living day by day along side her.

The plot was weak because of this however! I personally didn't mind as it was visually appealing, but I know a lot of people who wouldn't have been able to sit through it. There's nothing keeping the audience engaged so if you're someone who gets bored with movies easily, I wouldn't recommend this one!
If you're like me and pretty scenery and imagery is enough for you to stay interested for a whole 2 hours, then please give it a try! I found watching this very relaxing (and my anxiety was actually relieved) as well as inspiring! Throughout the movie i found myself wanting to cook and start my own garden. (Unfortunately, I live in an apartment so a garden is not an option aha;;)

The movie follows Ichiko through the seasons as she plants, grows and harvests vegetables for the current season. She also forages for food in the surrounding forest. With these ingredients she makes different recipes, it was almost like watching the cooking channel to be honest! She even gives (rough) measurements, temperatures and the general process for the recipes.

^Here is when she made jam with silverberries!^

A quick warning! There is one scene shown gutting a fish and another de-feathering a duck. If you aren't okay with these types of scenes, please be aware!

The movie had a strong mori feel to it! She spends most of her time with nature, knowing how to make the most of it.

The only thing ~not so mori~ was the clothing, but really, mori isnt very practical! I did find some outfits cute though! Her autumn outfit looked very cozy, and when reflecting on memories of her mother i found her mothers apron very cute!

Her home was very cozy as well; I sort of wish i lived in a home just like it! I don't know how well i would fair with the heat without air conditioning though! (Being very Canadian, i cannot handle the heat haha)

Over all I enjoyed this movie. The plot was weak and heck, I dont actually remember the name of any other characters and I only know ichiko's because of the movies description. If I'm to look at it normally, as enjoyable as it was for me, it wasn't very good. Looking it in a mori girl perspective though she seems like shes in her own head and wrapped up in her thoughts a lot of the time, something i think a lot of mori girls do. Because of this she is pretty much the only character in the film which i feel reflects the introverted nature many mori girls have.

My over all rating:

Plot:

Characters:

Cinematography:

My overall rating:

There is a second part to this movie: Winter/Spring! I plan to watch this one and will probably make another review. (from the preview it looks much more eventful and goes deeper into the plot surrounding the relationship with her mother)

Thank you for reading and if you plan on giving this movie a try, happy watching!

Mori Girl 30 Day Challenge (day 2)

2. Who is/are your mori girl idols? who inspires your fashion?

I don't have any specific idols for mori kei but if i had to pick it would be langlang! She's the model in Dearli's photography (A mori girl shop based in China!) This particular picture is the most inspiring to me! I really really want a hat like that and have been considering trying to make one, even though its pretty impractical! (The entire image is pretty ideal to me, living surrounded by hills and mountains covered in trees and greenery!)

I also find a lot of inspiration from street snaps! Or really anyone's outfit shots haha! I'm drawn to the very layerd, cozy and warm mori styles. I live in Canada so it gets pretty cold! The thought of being bundled up and feeling toasty other than a cold nose makes me feel very nostalgic; so this style of mori is quite comforting to me!

I think thats it! I could go on forever about inspirations but there are many more questions to touch on those!
Thank you for reading, I hope you have a lovely day!

Mori girl 30 Day Challenge (day 1)

1. naturally, our first question is how did you get into mori girl?

When starting highschool I decided I wanted to start dressing nicely, through elementary and middle school I dressed very plainly. I wore baggy T-shirts, loose fitting pants and my hair was always in a ponytail. I wanted to wear what was comfortable and i didn't care about how i looked until just before middle school; but I was too embarrassed to actually change my looks and draw attention from my friends. Then when I realized highschool would be a fresh start and nobody would know me I jumped on the opportunity to dress how i wanted!

Nearing the end of grade 9 my mother and I were shopping downtown, and there used to be a shop that sold "lolita" dresses and such. (everything was so ita and overpriced but i didn't know that at the time) I bought my first "lolita" dress and fell in love! For the next few months I researched lolita fashion (and found out what ita meant, haha) and I discovered other j-fashions like decora, fairy kei, cult party kei, gyaru, dolly kei... and mori kei!

I instantly fell in love with mori girl. When I realized there was a whole lifestyle aspect to it I noticed how much of it already applied to me and how much of it sounded ideal. Just like with lolita, I spent months learning about mori kei.

That year for Christmas my parents bought me my first mori clothes which pushed me to go thrifting for more pieces!  I'm So grateful to mori kei, quite honestly, its helped shape who I am and who I want to be!

A walk with Dexter!

Hello everyone, this is my first proper blog post!
Yesterday I brought my dog Dexter to a new park. It was a path along a river so there was a cool breeze which was heavenly as it was very humid! I brought my camera along to film for a new YouTube video! I had the mori folk who can't go out themselves in mind, whether because of illness or they live in a concrete jungle, I wanted to give them something they can hopefully enjoy! The video isn't up yet but when it is I'll link it!

The outfit I wore! It's the first time I've coorded this skirt and vest;
I love how they look together!

The park was only about 10 or 15 minutes away from my house! The first thing i noticed was how many side paths there were! I decided not to follow any though, I wanted to check out the main path first.

There were also many bench areas, all of them looked incredibly old. (they probably weren't though haha) A lot of them were in nice spots, some in fields, in small clearings, just plainly on the side of the path, my favorite spot was in a small clearing beside an old fallen tree:

The picture doesn't do it much justice! on both sides were bushes and trees, it was like a small circle. It felt very homely and i wanted to stay for a bit but Dexter was adamant about continuing our walk!
A bit farther up the path we came up to a bridge that went over a small stream. I brought Dexter down so he could cool off and get a nice big drink! Running water if very calming for me so we hung out there for a little while before crossing the bridge.

The bridge led into a huge field with picnic tables under trees for shade, I wanted to sit with Dexter so I layed out a blanket on the grass instead of a table and we had lunch! Dexter had some sliced apple and I had a sandwich! (That I ended up sharing with him)
I read a little bit of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle; If you haven't read it yet please give it a try! Its beautifully written and so enchanting, if you've watched the movie and enjoyed it you will love the book as well!

We headed home after only about 45 minutes, a large family came to our spot and took over. (the field was really big with lots of empty space, why they came to our spot particularly was a mystery to me and it was kind of rude!) Dexter was so tired and hot he walked very slow on our way back. In all our adventure was very fun and i can't wait to go back and explore the smaller paths!

I will make a new post with a link to the video once its up! Thank you for reading and have a lovely day!!
